Accessibility
Last updated: 14 October 2026
We want everyone to be able to use this website, whatever device or assistive technology they use. This page explains what we have done, where we know there is still work to do and how to tell us about a problem.
Our standard
The site is built to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA.
What we have done
- Every page can be used with a keyboard alone. A “skip to content” link is the first item on each page, and every link, button and form field shows a visible focus outline.
- Text and background colours meet the AA contrast ratios in both the light and dark colour themes, and the theme can be switched from the navigation bar.
- Every image has a text alternative. Decorative artwork is hidden from screen readers.
- Pages use one main heading, clear heading levels and named landmarks (navigation, main content, footer) so screen reader users can move around quickly.
- Motion is kept short and runs only on entrance. If your device is set to reduce motion, or you turn on the “Reduce motion” switch below, smooth scrolling, parallax, counters, page transitions and the home page video are switched off and content appears straight away.
- The home page video is muted, has no audio track and has a visible pause button. Visitors who have asked for reduced motion see a still image instead.
- Form fields have visible labels, required fields are marked, and error messages are announced to screen readers and linked to the field they describe.
- The layout adapts from small phones upwards, so text can be enlarged in the browser without sideways scrolling.
Reduce motion
Prefer the site to stay still? Switch this on and smooth scrolling, parallax, counters, page transitions and the home page video are turned off. The choice is saved in your browser only.
How we tested
Every page was checked in October 2026 with the axe-core automated testing engine (WCAG 2.1 A and AA rules) and by hand with keyboard navigation, zoom and reduced-motion settings. We re-check whenever pages are added or changed.
Known limitations
- Videos on the Media page are played through YouTube’s own player, whose controls and captions we do not control.
- Headings are set in a wide display typeface. If a heading wraps awkwardly at very large zoom levels, the text is still complete and readable.
Tell us about a problem
